New Year's Eve 2009
Another year here and gone, just like that. Or so it seems.
In many ways a long year, in other ways, gone too quickly.
A year of many changes.
I am most happy to see us phase into 2010.
I have been reading a bit on what to call the first decade of the 2000's.
It's a strange sound on the tongue for sure.
The mantel is cleaned off, the tree is down and ornaments put away.Tabletops cleared of holiday decorating and dusted and cleaning done today.
The bows are off the wreaths, although the wreaths remain on the entry doors.
New candles are burning around the house, as the radio station is playing it's afternoon classical music.
A fresh pot of coffee is just brewed, and the 3 inches of snow that was on the ground this morning, is mostly melted off roadways and walkways.
We are hunkering in tonight, and watching mindless tv and reading.
I will put off my usual organizing I do on the last day of the year.
The filing of receipts, the balancing of the checkbook, the writing of thank yous from the holiday season.
Tonight and tomorrow I am just going to 'be' and a good book is ready here to read.
I am wondering what the new year holds; if it means a relocation again for jobs we need to find. Or the ability to stay here and continue in our home and renovating.
But for the present I will sit and watch the sunset, tomorrow the sunrise,
as these are two of my favorite things to do.
To you my friends, may the new year bring you just what you want.
Onward we go.
